Planning to Say “I Do” in Turks and Caicos? Here’s What You Need to Know
Before tying the knot in the breathtaking Turks and Caicos Islands, you’ll need to secure a legal marriage license and meet all the government requirements. If you’re planning a destination wedding, working with a local wedding planner can help make the process smooth and stress-free.
Please note: As of now, Turks and Caicos does not issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
Legal Requirements for a Marriage License in Turks and Caicos:
At least one person from the couple must be in the country for a minimum of 48 hours before applying for a standard marriage license. Here’s what you’ll need to provide:
•A valid passport
•Original birth certificate
•Proof of single status, such as a sworn affidavit and a certificate of no impediment from your home country (if unmarried)
•If previously married, a divorce decree (original or notarized copy with court seal)
•If widowed, a copy of the marriage certificate and the spouse’s death certificate (original or notarized copy)
•Legal documentation for any name changes (deed poll, adoption papers, etc.)
•If under 21, a notarized affidavit of parental or guardian consent
•A letter detailing your occupation, current marital status, age at last birthday, residential address, and your father’s full name
•Proof of your arrival date in the islands (usually via your passport stamp)
•A $150 licensing fee
No blood tests are required. Any documents not in English must be officially translated and notarized. For church ceremonies, some clergy may also request proof of religious membership.
Marriage between close relatives is restricted by law, though marriages between cousins are permitted
If you need an official copy of your marriage certificate after the wedding, it’s available for $40 (as of 2025)
